Scoring rules are in the Texas Youth Racing Circuit Conditions. Those rules apply to all TSA Youth Circuit regattas and are the definitive rules; anything in this document that conflicts with the conditions are just mistakes on my part.
The circuit uses the low point scoring system, based on the sailor's final place for each regatta. In all cases 'overall scoring' is used. For Opti Red/White/Blue fleets, this means a sailor's score is his/her score in the overall RWB fleet regatat. For Full Rig, Laser Radial, and Doublehanded, this is sailor's score with all participants included, regardless of whether they are juniors or not. This means that if a sailor places 5th in the Laser Radial class where the top four finishers are all adults, his/her score for the regatta will still be 5th for TSA scoring purposes.
Any junior sailor who sails in at least 7 regattas, at least one of which is more than 70 miles from his/her home club, will receive a season participation award. Season scoring for each fleet is based on the number of regattas sailed within a fleet. If a sailor sails 5 regattas in Laser Radial and 2 in 420, he/she will receive a participation award but will not be scored in either the Laser Radial or 420 season standings.
This is the confusing one. For each individual regatta, a sailor is placed in the correct fleet for his/her age on the first day of the regatta. For the TSA season scoring, the fleet is determined by the sailor's age on the first day of the LAST regatta of the year. For 2009, this means Opti fleet assignments are based on each sailor's age as of 10/24/2009. Therefore, a sailor who's birthday is 10/23/1996 will be scored in the Blue fleet for each of the first 13 regattas, but since he/she will be 13 at the time of the end of year regatta, he/she will be scored in the Red fleet for 2009 TSA youth circuit standings. Opti RWB is considered one fleet for scoring purposes. This means that a sailor who sails 5 regattas in Blue fleet and 2 in Red fleet will be counted as having sailed in 7 Opti RWB fleet races and will be scored in the Opti RWB overall standings. However, a sailor who sails 2 regattas in Green fleet and 5 regattas in Blue fleet will not have sailed 7 Opti RWB regattas and will not be scored in the overall Opti RWB standings (but will still receive a participation award.)
